About Ranae Lee-Nasir

Welcome to my blog, I am Ranae Lee-Nasir and I conduct art workshop to children and youth with special needs.

I started this blog to record the fantastic artworks student-artists CAN and are creating. They are fantastic not because the end-product looks simply wonderful. But a tribute to the tremendous effort, patience, thoughtfulness and process in art making each student-artist puts in. The individuality reveal in their work is breathtaking and is the fuel that keeps me going.

The second reason for starting this blog is to share the art making process. For many of the projects, steps and sequences accompanied the images as I hoped these simple instructions can be helpful to anyone who is interested to try.

I have always been an art teacher, with more than ten years of experience in conducting sessions to numerous organisation, schools and in a wide range of ages. My aim is to create an amazing learning experience for each student-artist. I enjoy interacting with student-artists for they bring raw ideas and totally different perspective to the drawing board not to mention their humorous antics in the art room

In 2015, I collaborated with the two representative from the Ministry of Education and National Arts Council to develop the Visual Arts Toolkit for SPED Schools. Through this toolkit, I had the chance to meet with other visual artists teaching in sped schools and I had learnt a lot from each of them as they shared their tools of the trade as well as secret approaches to pushing each participant to new heights.

I hold a Degree in Fine Arts (Printmaking) and a Diploma in Disability Studies from the University of Sydney, in association with Social Service Training Institute, Singapore. In August 2015, I was conferred with a Masters in Education (Special Needs) from the National Institute of Education (Singapore). My final paper was a survey research design that explore factors of aesthetic judgement of 70 healthy adults on art pieces created by eight student-artists with special needs.
