I have always saw it as messy, i guess with today's way of how the dyes are packaged. The whole process has becomed a breeze.
There are four key steps.
Step 1: Bunch t-shirt (or fabric) with Rubberband or string. The tighter the better. The rubberband blocks out the area to be dye and at the same time, creates the rings.
Step 2: I would choose no more then three colours per t-shirt.
I always start with the brightest = Yellow.
For this t-shirt, I chose Red and Blue.
**Tip**For batik dyes, never premix the colours as you would with paints. It never works, you will just end up with a coffee looking colour.
Rather layer one colour over another a drop at a time. The dye would do the rest of the work..
Step 3: Dry the colours without removing the rubberband for at least an hour.
Step 4: Allow the t-shirt to dry overnight before washing it in cool water.
Step 5: Ready t o wear.
